Government offices to limit Eid timings

Only few branches with staggered working hours open over long weekend

Dubai: Only select branch offices and services of government departments will remain open — that too for shorter working hours — over the Eid Al Fitr break, which begins on Thursday and lasts till Shawwal 3 (Sunday or Monday) for the public sector.

Thursday night’s scheduled official moonsighting committee will determine which day is the first day of Eid (Shawwal 1) and correspondingly which day Shawwal 3 will be.

This year, Eid Al Fitr will fall on Friday or Saturday but the public sector holiday starts in advance from Thursday itself.

In general, government departments close for the Eid break every year, keeping open only emergency services or some offices with limited timings. The private sector is also generally off work, typically getting two days off for the Eid holiday.

Over the long weekend, residents and visitors will have to adjust to the Eid working schedules of government departments and services. However, the impact will be limited as the festival falls over the weekend, which is a holiday anyway for both the public and private sectors.

To meet the high Eid demand for public transport, Dubai Metro’s Red and Green line stations will be open till 2am on Saturday and Sunday.

Meanwhile, all paid parking zones will be free of charge from Thursday until Shawwal 3 (Sunday or Monday), except for the parking lots of the Fish Market and the multi-level parking terminals.

For those heading outdoors, Dubai’s public parks will remain open 8am-11pm throughout Eid Al Fitr.
