Google faces lawsuit over nude celebrity photo leaks

Google could face a fine of up to $100m for failing to remove leaked pictures of naked celebrities from its search results

A law firm representing over a dozen female celebrities whose nude photos were leaked online is threatening to sue Google for $100 million (£62m), after the company allegedly failed to remove the images from its search results.

In a letter to Google leaked to the New York Post, top Hollywood lawyer Marty Singer accused the search engine of "accommodating, facilitating and perpetuating" the distribution of private images, and claimed that Google is liable for "both compensatory and punitive damages".

Singer's law firm, Lavely & Singer, also criticised Google's "shocking" decision to protect its revenue stream partners, in order to earn "multi millions of dollars on a weekly basis", over the rights and protection of individuals.
